Renewable and Sustainable Energy

Peter J. Schubert is a distinguished professor emeritus following 12 years as the Director of the statewide renewable energy research center for the Indiana University system. He is also a Visiting Professor with Newcastle University in the UK. Schubert is a licensed Professional Engineer and received his doctorate from Purdue University. Prof. Schubert has published 120 technical works including two textbooks and 10 book chapters. He holds 43 patents in the U.S. and 13 patents in the E.U. He has managed over 5 million USD in research grants from NASA, NSF, USDA, DOE, and DoD, including a current $400,000 project on clean hydrogen in collaboration with two of DOE's national laboratories. Schubert is currently the CEO and co-founder of Green Fortress Energy, Carmel, Indiana, working to commercialize clean hydrogen production and storage. Finally, Dr. Schubert is the board chairman of The Andromeda Movement, Inc., a not-for-profit that awards scholarships to college students pursuing careers in space.

Thomas J. Webster’s (H index: 129) degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995; USA) and in biomedical engineering from RPI (Ph.D., 2000; USA). He has formed over a dozen companies who have numerous FDA approved medical products currently improving human health in over 30,000 patients. His technology is also being used in commercial products to improve sustainability and renewable energy. He is currently helping those companies and serves as a professor at Brown University, Saveetha University, Hebei University of Technology, UFPI, and others. Dr. Webster has numerous awards including: 2020, World Top 2% Scientist by Citations (PLOS); 2020, SCOPUS Highly Cited Research (Top 1% Materials Science and Mixed Fields); 2021, Clarivate Top 0.1% Most Influential Researchers (Pharmacology and Toxicology); 2022, Best Materials Science Scientist by Citations (Research.com); and is a fellow of over 8 societies. Prof. Webster is a former President of the U.S. Society for Biomaterials and has over 1,350 publications to his credit with over 66,000 citations. He was recently nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Prof. Webster also recently formed a fund to support Nigerian student research opportunities in the U.S.

Professor Raman Singh’s primary research interests are in the relationship of Nano- /microstructure and Environment-assisted degradation and fracture of metallic and composite materials, and Nanotechnology for Advanced Mitigation of such Degradations. He has also worked extensively on use of advanced materials (e.g., graphene) for corrosion mitigation, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion and corrosion-mitigation of magnesium alloys (including for the use of magnesium alloys for aerospace, energy, defence and bioimplant applications). Prof Singh is a senior professor at Monash University, Australia. He is a Guest Professor at ETH Zurich, Switzerland (2020, 2023, 2024), US Naval Research Lab, Indian Institute of Science, and University of Connecticut. He worked as a scientist at Indian Atomic Energy and as a post-doc fellow at University of New South Wales, Australia. Prof Singh’s professional distinctions and recognitions include: Guest Professor of ETH Zurich, Editor of a book on Cracking of Welds (CRC Press), Lead Editor of a book on Non- destructive Evaluation of Corrosion (Wiley), Editor-in-Chief of an Elsevier and an MDPI journals, leader/chairperson of a few international conferences and numerous plenary/keynote lectures at international conferences, over 285 peer-reviewed international journal publications and 15 book chapter, and several competitive research grants (that includes 4 Discovery, 7 Linkage and one ITRH grants of Australian Research Council). Prof Singh has supervised 60 PhD students. His vibrant research group at Monash University comprises of PhD students from different disciplines (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials and Mining Engineering, and Science) as well as from different cultural backgrounds (Australian, Middle-eastern, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, African, North American and Israeli).

Professor Yanbo Liu received her PhD in Material Science and Engineering from The University of Tennessee, USA in 2004. Dr. Liu has worked with Tianjin Polytechnical University (Tianjin, China,1991-1999) as textile engineer, Novozymes China (Beijing, China) and Novozymes North America (Raleigh, USA) during 2004-2007 as Research Scientist, Hongda Research Institute Co. Ltd (Beijing, China, 2007-2009) as senior engineer/Post Doc, and Tianjin Polytechnic University (Tianjin, China) as associate professor (2010-2015). Additionally, she ever paid academic visit to NCSU (Raleigh, USA, 1999-2000) which was financially supported by China Scholarship Council (CSC). Currently She works at the Department of Nonwoven Materials and Engineering, School of Textile Science and Engineering, Wuhan Textile University, China, with her research directions focused on the research on technology principles, process control, equipment design and nanofiber products of electrospinning. Her research fields also involve nanofiber-based aerogels, composites, nonwovens, textile materials. She has published 135 papers on national and international academic journals and one edited book with CRC Press, USA, presented more than 20 invited lectures on related national and international conferences, and she was authorized for 25 Chinese patens and one European patent. Furthermore, she has presided or participated for five projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), two projects from Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Commission (TMSTC), and one project from Hubei Province, China. She also presided and finished more than 20 research projects from domestic enterprises and companies. She received 8 provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress. She was awarded with the title of “Innovative and entrepreneurial talent of Jiangsu Province, 2011”, “Young Scientist Award” by IAAM, 2023, “Expert enjoying special governmental subsidies of State Council of the People's Republic of China”, and “Tongjiang Scholar, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China”.

Dr. Mohamed A. Hassaan is an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF) in Alexandria, Egypt, where he has been a dedicated research member since 2013. Since April 2020, he has served as the supervisor of NIOF's Central Laboratory till January 2023. Dr. Hassaan holds a Master’s degree (2011) and a Ph.D. (2017) in Environmental science (Chemical Oceanography and Marine Pollution). He also was a lecture on marine science and environmental topics at Port Said University. In 2018, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy. His international experience is further highlighted by his role at International SEABED Authority (ISA) trainees during the INDEX 2016 cruise, organized by the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Germany. Dr. Hassaan has participated in multiple oceanographic expeditions, including those hosted by NIOF and Italy's National Research Council (CNR). Dr. Hassaan has completed specialized training courses at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands (2015 and 2016) and was a visiting fellow at CNR in both 2014 and 2017. His prolific academic output includes co-authoring two books, seven book chapters, and 81 research articles, accumulating over 1,650 citations on Scopus. His research interests encompass advanced oxidation techniques (ozonation, sonication, ultraviolet), wastewater treatment, nanotechnology, biogas, Biomethane and biofuel energy production, monitoring of inorganic and organic pollutants, and green Hydrogen production. Dr. Hassaan is committed to pioneering innovative green technologies for pollutant treatment and sustainable energy production.

Wenxin Li is a student directed by Professor Yong Huang. Her research interest focuses on key materials for solid state Lithium batteries and photoelectric materials and devices

Juan C. Cuero holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (M.Sc., 2024) from the Technological University of Pereira, Colombia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (2019) from the same institution. His most recent research focuses on adaptive protection strategies for active distribution networks, utilizing local measurements, as documented in his publication: Additionally, he has served as a thesis evaluator for master’s programs, assessing adaptive protection strategies based on machine learning approaches. With over seven years of professional experience, Prof. Cuero has worked with various grid operators in Colombia, including prominent international corporations such as ENEL and the Compañía Energética de Occidente, which is part of the Promigas Group, where he currently serves as a Design Professional. Concurrently, He is a professor at the INEL technical engineering institute, teaching specialized programs focused on the planning, analysis, and execution of technical studies related to the integration of Small- and Large-Scale Self-Generators, as well as Distributed Generation. Prof. Cuero is an expert in evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of projects for integrating non-conventional renewable energy sources, adhering to local and international regulatory standards. His expertise also includes the analysis of Protection Coordination Studies (ECP) for integration into the national interconnected system. Furthermore, he has ventured into mathematical modeling, developing optimization models for the planning of transmission and distribution systems, with a focus on projecting the penetration of non-conventional renewable energy sources into the power grid. In addition, Prof. Cuero has contributed to the development of technological infrastructure using agile methodologies, aimed at digitizing the electrical sector. This includes platforms for receiving, validating, and approving projects for the allocation of transport capacity to meet demand and generation requirements, in compliance with current national and international regulations.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Aykut Fatih Güven is currently serving in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Yalova University, Turkey. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Kocaeli University in 2023, specializing in the techno-economic optimization of standalone hybrid energy systems. Dr. Güven has extensive academic and professional experience, having held various roles in academia and the private sector since 2000. His research interests include renewable energy systems, hybrid energy system optimization, electric vehicles, control systems, power system analysis, artificial intelligence, and meta- heuristic optimization algorithms. Dr. Güven has authored numerous high-impact journal articles and conference papers in these areas. His work focuses on the integration of renewable energy with advanced optimization techniques to address challenges in energy management and sustainability. Dr. Güven is dedicated to advancing research in energy systems and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in his field.

Masoud has more than 16 years (2006+) of experience in power system studies, including impact analysis of distributed generation, power system protection, reliability, resilience, and modeling, analysis, and simulation of transmission and distribution systems. He is currently focused on Asset Strategy in PG&E as a senior distribution engineer. He is also improving his leadership and management skills through his MBA studies at HAAS. Before joining PG&E, he was a principal engineer at Quanta Technology, a consulting company in the power and energy industry, involved in projects for 30+ utilities and other corporations in 20+ states and abroad, in various aspects of study, implementation, and development. As a Senior IEEE Member, Masoud is also serving as an officer or voting member in IEEE PES Distribution Subcommittee, Distribution Resiliency Working Group, Switching and Overcurrent Protection Working Group, Solid-State Transformers Task Force, Distribution Reliability Working Group, among others. He is also serving the research community by reviewing papers for different journals and conferences in IEEE, IET, EPSR, and more. Masoud has also served as the track/committee chair of conferences, panel moderator, panelist, etc. in various occasions.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Filiz Guneysu Atasoy is currently working at the University of the Ozarks in the U.S., as the leading faculty of the information Science Program, specializing in clean and renewable energy policy analysis, macroeconomic modeling, and applied econometrics. Her research focuses on the economic impacts of energy transition policies, climate change, and sustainable development, with several impactful publications addressing renewable energy markets and policy design. Dr. Guneysu Atasoy holds a PhD in Applied Economics and a minor in Statistics from Auburn University, which equipped her with a strong foundation in advanced econometric methods. Combining her deep expertise in economics with cutting-edge data analysis, Dr. Guneysu Atasoy delivers actionable policy insights to support the global shift toward sustainable energy systems.

Silvio Almeida is Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic School at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ. He took part of the Committee of the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE) to prepare the document: Critical and Sensitive Technologies in Priority Sectors: Energy Hydrogen in Brazil. He was the principal author of the Transport Chapter of the National Report on Climate Change (volume 3, chapter 3, item 3.3) of the Brazilian Panel of Climate Change (PBMC). Currently he performs scientific research in the areas of simulation of conventional, hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles. He also participated in several projects in the area of ​​cogeneration, decentralized power generation, internal combustion engines, hydrogen and fuel cells.

Prof Ichiro Naruse is worked as a Doctor of Engineering in Department of Chemical Engineering, at Nagoya University, Japan in the Year of 1989 and in the same year he worked as a Research Associate, Department of Energy Engineering, Toyohashi University of Technology. In 1994 he worked as a Associate Professor in the Department of Ecological Engineering, ditto and worked as a Visiting researcher, Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, The University of Arizona in the year of 1997.In 2007 he worked as a Professor, Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Nagoya University and then he moved in to Institute of Material and System for Sustainability, Nagoya University, Japan.

Professor Dr. Belkacem Kada is a full aerospace design and control systems professor with over two decades of academic and research experience. He earned his Ph.D. in Complex Automation and Mechatronics from Laval University, Quebec, Canada, in 2006, and obtained his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Science and Technology of Oran (USTO), Algeria, in 1998 and 1992 respectively. As a Professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, KSA, Dr. Kada specializes in aerospace design, control systems, flight and orbital mechanics, guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems, autonomous and multi-agent systems, and aerospace formation flying. He is adept at applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to technology, engineering, and science.

Dr. Cemil Koyunoğlu was born on July 10, 1980, in Malatya, Turkey. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from İnönü University in 2007 and completed his M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering at the same institution in 2010. Dr. Koyunoğlu obtained his Ph.D. in Energy Science and Technology from Istanbul Technical University in 2021, with a focus on the environmental impact of pulverized coal and coal mixture injection in the iron and steel industry. During his academic journey, he was a visiting research scholar at the Penn State University EMS Energy Institute in 2015–2016, specializing in coal utilization. Dr. Koyunoğlu has extensive professional experience, including his current role as an Associate Professor at Yalova University. His expertise lies in renewable energy systems, computational fluid dynamics, and life-cycle assessments. He has held significant research positions and led numerous projects on biomass energy, hybrid renewables, and sustainable industrial processes. Dr. Koyunoğlu has authored several publications, including "New Advancements in Fuels and Lubricants for the Aerospace Industry" (Hiperlink, 2018) and research articles on hydrogen production, biodiesel technologies, and coal-biomass co-liquefaction. Dr. Koyunoğlu is an active member of professional societies such as the Turkish Chamber of Chemical Engineers and serves as the editor-in-chief of the journal *Innovative Engineering Solutions*. He has received awards for his contributions to energy efficiency research and is a frequent reviewer for leading journals in energy and environmental engineering

Prof. Eric Cheng is a distinguished electrical engineer who earned his BSc and PhD from the University of Bath in 1987 and 1990, respectively. Before joining the University of California in 2024, he served as a professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and as Principal Engineer at Lucas Aerospace in the United Kingdom, where he led several pioneering power electronics projects. Prof. Cheng is renowned for his significant contributions to electric vehicle development and power conversion. He was the designer of the first commercial electric vehicle in the Asia region and spearheaded the creation of the region's inaugural charging network. His expertise in electrical engineering, energy, and automotive technology has garnered numerous accolades, including the Gold Prize at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2015 for his work on supercapacitors for electric vehicles, the 2016 iCAN Gold Medal for innovations in active suspension, and the Gold Award for Innovation and Technology in Hong Kong in 2017. He also received the Silver Award at the Geneva Invention Expo for his work on an antilock braking system, the Top 20 Tera Award in 2021, and both the Innovation Award at TechConnect 2023 and the Silver Award at Geneva Inventions 2024 for his contributions to ammonia-powered fuel cell-based electric vehicles.

Sona Grigoryan is a master's student at Yerevan State University in the Faculty of Chemistry. She earned her bachelor's degree in chemistry two years ago and has since focused on advanced materials research. For the past year, she has been working at the A.B. Nalbandyan Institute of Chemical Physics, NAS RA, in Yerevan, Armenia, as part of the Functional Materials Group, where she contributes to the development of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Her research primarily involves synthesis and film preparation, improving thin-film morphology for enhanced device performance. Sona has actively engaged with the scientific community, presenting her work at international conferences. In the past year, she participated in two international conferences—one held in Armenia and another in Lausanne, Switzerland. Her dedication to renewable energy research and material science reflects her commitment to advancing sustainable energy technologies.

Bob Bordley is Professor and Director of the Systems Engineering and Design Master’s Degree Program, Industrial and Operations Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He earned the university’s Tom Sawyer Teaching Award in 2023 and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Society in 2021. He has published more than eighty articles in operations research, economics, decision sciences and mathematical physics including one receiving the Decision Analysis Publication Award in 2006. He received the Ramsey Medal for Distinguished Contributions to Decision Analysis in 2021 and was named a Fellow of the Institute of Management Science and Operations Research in 2008, a Fellow of the American Statistical Society in 2011 and a Fellow of the Society of Decision Professionals in 2013. He received the Michigan INCOSE Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and the Engineering Society of Detroit Golden Globe Award in 2020. His PhD is from the University of California, Berkeley (1978). He previously worked at Booz-Allen Hamilton, the National Science Foundation and General Motors. For his accomplishments at General Motors, he received the Chairman’s Award (2004), Outstanding Design Award (2003), United Auto Workers and General Motors Quality Award (2002), President’s Council Award (1998) and Research Aware of Excellence (1994). His current focus is on integrating decision and risk assessment into systems engineering and project management.

Dr. Sofoklis Makridis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering, University of Patras in Greece & Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, University of Bradford, UK & Aerospace Manufacturing Department, Cranfield University, UK. He is Director of the legal entity Innoenergy lab (Environmental Physics and Hydrogen Technology). He was till 2013, a Lecturer in the Department of Engineering, Sports and Sciences at Bolton University and associated member in IMRI & IREET Institutes. He is a physicist while he received the MEng on 2002 and the PhD on 2004 in fields of Materials Science and Engineering & an awarded PostDoc by IKY Greek State Scholarships Foundation (NanoMagnetic Materials & Hydrogen Technologies). He serves as Editor-in-Chief at Challenges (MDPI) and at Verizona Publishing Ltd, London, Editor at Scientific Reports of Nature Published Group, Materials Science and Engineering B of Elsevier among others. He has built two spin-offs with the University of Patras till first half of 2021, WRE-UPATRAS & ARMONI-UPATRAS that have been registered at elevate Greece & his PhD students have developed two start-ups as HydroZen and Blue Planet P.C.

Dr. Yunnan Chen is a Professor at the National Key Laboratory of Green Hydrogen and Electricity at Xi'an Jiaotong University. Research focuses on the supercritical water thermochemical resource utilization and harmless treatment of biomass/organic solid waste, clean and efficient coal conversion, industrial energy-saving and waste heat recovery, simulation optimization of industrial equipment, thermodynamic analysis of advanced energy power systems, and corrosion studies of supercritical H₂/CO₂/H₂O on materials. In the past five years, he has authored 32 SCI papers, with 26 having an impact factor(IF)≥9 and 10 with an IF≥10. Research works has been published in top-tier journals such as Chemical Engineering Journal and Journal of Hazardous Materials.

Dr. Anna Clare Monlezun is a rangeland ecosystem scientist, synthesizer, and collaborative facilitator. She considers herself a life-long student of nature who thrives in interdisciplinary work environments, assisting stakeholders in the interface of ranching and conservation. She offers state-of-the-science knowledge and practical engagement in agroecology, grazing management, rangeland science, agrivoltaics, and ecosystem services valuation. A published writer, musician, and poet, Anna Clare enjoys bridging the worlds of science, art, and land management. A Colorado rancher herself, she brings her unique skillset to land stewardship through livestock grazing as the founder of Graze LLC and Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit organization, the Rangeland Living Laboratory Inc. In the world of Agrivoltaics and AgriPV, Anna Clare serves as the Agrivoltaics Research Lead for a U.S. Department of Energy-funded project, the Grants Leader for an Agrivoltaic Analytical Studies project of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the American Solar Grazing Association, and the Agrivoltaics Consultant for globally recognized The Nature Conservancy. She was also honored to serve on the Agrivoltaics World Conference 2024 Scientific Committee and continues to work as a consultant for other budding agrivoltaics projects across the country. She brings to the field of agrivoltaics and the solar industry a “systems” perspective, where ecosystem stewardship is equally paramount to the production of renewable energy. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Humanities, an M.A. in Community Counseling, an International Post-Graduate Certificate in Expressive Arts: Therapy, Consultation, and Social Change, an M.S. in Animal Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability

Nane Petrosyan is PhD student at Yerevan State University, specializing in Computational Materials Science. With a Master’s degree from Yerevan State University, she has developed various skills in computational modelling and simulations. Her research focuses on the computational search of sodium ion solid state electrolytes, aiming to find novel stable sodium containing materials with high ionic conductivity. She has presented my findings at international conferences such as Pan-Armenian Science Conference and published in peer-reviewed journals like Advanced Surface Science. In 2022, she started working at Functional Materials Group of Institute of Chemical Physics, NAS, RA. Here, her work is related to computational investigation of stable hybrid perovskites with desired electronic properties. The founded stable materials are synthesized by experimental scientists from their team. These combined findings can have broader impact on advancing sustainable energy technologies. Looking ahead, she aims to continue developing novel materials for innovative energy solutions. Through my work, she strives to bridge the gap between fundamental science and real-world applications, driving progress in renewable energy materials science.

Dr. Duo ZHANG is currently working in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as the Research Fellow, specializing in the interdisciplinary field of transportation science and vehicle dynamics. His research focuses on reducing the energy consumption for the train by the optimization of carbody gravity center, suspension control, and innovative train operation control strategy based on the dynamics simulation results. Dr. ZHANG holds a PhD in Transportation Planning and Management from Southwest Jiaotong University, which equipped him with a strong foundation in railway engineering. His research works have been published in top-tier journals such as Applied Energy and Energy.

Dr. Xin Wang focuses on microscale flow & heat transfer, microgravity fluid physics, and numerical modeling of gas-liquid phase-change heat transfer. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers, and presented at more than 20 academic conferences. His academic distinctions include: Session Chair of 15th HEFAT Conference, 2021; First Prize, Jiangsu Society of Engineering Thermophysics (2023); Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, Southeast University (2023); Youth Scholar Excellence Award, 13th National Microgravity Science Conference (2023). Dr. Wang currently leads research projects funded by: National Natural Science Foundation of China, Aeronautical Science Foundation, Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation, etc.

Sébastien Poncet (Eng., Ph.D., HDR) is full professor in the mechanical engineering department at Université de Sherbrooke in Canada. He holds the NSERC chair on industrial energy efficiency since 2014 with the support of Hydro-Québec, Natural Resources Canada and Copeland Canada Inc. After a PhD in complex systems from Aix-Marseille Université in 2005, he was appointed assistant professor in the same university working on (1) the instability, turbulence and heat transfer in rotating machineries and (2) the transport of bronchial mucus by clearance devices. In 2014, he defended his habilitation (HDR) at the same university. In 2014, he was appointed associate professor at Université de Sherbrooke to work on renewable energy, energy storage, refrigeration and heat pump systems, complex heat transfer materials, etc. He is the coauthor of about 500 publications whose 170 in international journals. He is member of the editorial board of several journals : Trans. CSME, J. Mech. Eng. Sci. or Progress in Comput. Fluid Dyn. Among others. He is the chair of the CSME Thermal Engineering Science technical committee.

Dr Valentina Janev is a Senior Researcher at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, University of Belgrade, Serbia and Associated Professor at the Belgrade Metropolitan University. Since 2003, she has been actively involved in scientific projects financed by the Serbian Ministry of Science, as well in research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission. She has served as a coordinator of EU projects, an expert in CIP/EIP projects, as well as an expert evaluator for research and innovation projects. Her current research interests include artificial intelligence, big data analytics, semantic technologies, management of critical infrastructures, open data innovations and statistical data processing. In these areas, she published over 140 papers and several books. She is a Senior IEEE member

Dr. Fazila Mohd Zawawi is a senior lecturer at the Department of Thermofluids, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). She is a member of the Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFM) Research Group. Dr. Fazila obtained her B. Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2003. She then pursued her M. Sc in Aerospace Mechanics and Avionics, and Ph.D in Aeronautics from Institut Superieur de l’Aeronautique et de l’Espace, Toulouse, France in 2010 and 2014, respectively. Her research expertise lies in various areas, including Renewable Energy (RE)-based power generation systems, hypersonic boundary layer control, rotorcraft aeroelasticity and fluid-structure interaction, drones conceptual design, applied modeling and simulation, and computer-based code development. As a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UTM, Dr. Fazila gives lectures on several courses namely Turbomachinery, Fluid Mechanics, and Compressible Fluid Flows, and coming soon, Wind Energy Systems. As a dedicated member of the Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFM) Research Group, Dr. Fazila focuses on the (aerodynamic) design and development of prototype for wind turbines specifically tailored to low wind speed conditions. Through her innovative research, she aims to unlock the vast potential of harnessing wind energy in areas with challenging wind conditions. Dr. Fazila's profound passion for sustainable energy solutions has driven her to explore new possibilities and push the boundaries of traditional wind turbine designs. Her work provides insights into optimizing the performance of wind turbines operating under low wind speed conditions, ensuring optimal efficiency and maximizing power generation. The presentation titled "Potential of Low Wind Speed Wind Turbines" by Dr. Fazila will discuss the recent advancements in harnessing wind energy efficiently in areas with low wind speeds. Drawing from her experience in leading Malaysian government-funded prototype development projects related to wind-based power generation systems and technologies, Dr. Fazila will provide valuable insights into this emerging field. As the world strives to transition to more sustainable sources of energy, there is growing interest in optimizing wind power production in regions that were previously considered unsuitable for wind turbines. Dr. Fazila's presentation will begin by pointing up the wind potential analysis based on the wind data collected from over 10 stations throughout Malaysia. This analysis will shed light on the viability of wind energy production in low wind speed regions. Furthermore, Dr. Fazila will highlight the key factors that influence wind energy production in such regions with the hope that researchers and industry professionals can devise strategies to maximize the efficiency of low wind speed wind turbines. In addition to discussing the challenges associated with low wind speed regions, Dr. Fazila's presentation will also highlight innovative solutions that are revolutionizing the field i.e. advancements in turbine design, blade technology, and conversion matching systems; to enhance wind power generation in areas with previously unfavorable wind conditions by leveraging these innovative solutions. Overall, it is hoped that Dr. Fazila's sharing could be an invaluable resource for those interested in exploring the potential of low wind speed wind turbines.

Dr. Moustafa Mahmoud Aboelmaaref is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sohag University, Egypt, specializing in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and desalination systems. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Tianjin University, China, in 2023, with a focus on hybrid solar-powered desalination systems. Dr. Moustafa Mahmoud Aboelmaaref also holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (2017) from Sohag University, where he focused on thermoelectric air conditioning systems, and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with First-Class Honors (2012) from the same institution. His career spans over a decade at Sohag University, where he has served as a Demonstrator (2013 2017), Assistant Lecturer (2017-2023), and currently as an Associate Professor (2023-present). His research interests include renewable energy systems, desalination technologies, energy efficiency, and thermodynamic applications in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Dr. Aboelmaaref has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, with a citation count of over 521 on Google Scholar and 541 on Scopus. He serves as a reviewer for high-impact journals such as Energy and Buildings and Process Safety and Environmental Protection. He has received several honors, including the Sohag University Award for International Scientific Publishing (2023) and certifications for his outstanding reviewing contributions to journals like Thermal Science and Engineering Progress and Case Studies in Thermal Engineering. Dr. Aboelmaaref has also been involved in the development of laboratories for energy applications and has participated in various international conferences, further establishing his expertise in renewable energy and desalination systems.

Dr. Amr Ahmed Elfeky is a dedicated Researcher at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Institute of Engineering and Renewable Energy Researches, National Research Centre (NRC), Egypt. He holds both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Cairo University. Dr. Elfeky earned his M.Sc. in 2015, focusing on the aerodynamic design of flanged diffuser wind turbines. He continued his academic journey with a Ph.D. in 2019, where his research explored the effect of cascading blades on the dynamic stall behavior of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines. In recognition of his innovative work in renewable energy, Dr. Elfeky was awarded Leaders in Innovation Fellowship (LIF 2023) by the Royal Academy of Engineering, London. His research continues to contribute to the advancement of sustainable energy technologies, particularly in optimizing wind turbine performance. Dr. Elfeky is passionate about sustainable energy solutions and continues to engage in applied research in the fields of aerodynamics, wind energy, flow control, and CFD simulation.

Nozomi Tauchi is a doctoral student in the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering at Nagoya University since 2024. She earned her master’s degree in applied chemistry from Tokyo City University in 2021. Following her graduate studies, she joined IHI Inspection and Instrumentation Co., Ltd., where she has been engaged in research and development since 2021. During her master’s research, she focused on investigating the material synthesis mechanisms of cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries. Currently, her doctoral research explores the agglomeration behavior of biomass fuel ash in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers, utilizing a bi-chemical approach to understand and mitigate operational challenges in biomass energy systems.

Dr. Rezi Delfianti is an academic and researcher who focuses on automation and distributed systems, Internet of Things (IoT), energy management, and smart energy trading. With a scientific background in electrical engineering, Dr. Rezi is actively developing smart and sustainable solutions for future energy systems. Currently, he is a lecturer at the Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidisciplinary, Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia. In his career as a researcher, Dr. Rezi explores various innovative approaches in the integration of IoT technology with intelligent energy management systems, especially in the context of smart grid, smart distribution, and business model optimization for prosumer participation and electric vehicles. He also develops simulations and system designs such as smart metering, smart water management, and artificial intelligence-based energy management algorithms. Dr. Rezi's commitment is not only reflected in his academic and research contributions, but also in his active role in mentoring students and encouraging cross-disciplinary research collaborations. With his vision to bridge the gap between theory and real implementation, he continues to make significant contributions to the advancement of energy technology and sustainability in Indonesia and the world.

Amin Zakhirekar is a PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales Canberra, where his research focuses on decentralized energy markets and blockchain-enabled peer-to-peer trading mechanisms. Drawing on a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and a master’s in project management, Amin develops multi-objective optimization models, leveraging genetic algorithms such as NSGA-II, to design prosumer and retailer strategies that balance cost, reliability, and equity among local energy communities. Amin has co-authored articles in leading journals on energy such as Journal of Cleaner Production and presented at international conferences. In addition to his research, Amin serves as a teaching assistant in courses on optimization and energy systems, and as a sessional academic, where he has designed coursework on software quality assurance for engineering students. He is a committee member of the Australian Institute of Project Management’s Canberra chapter and holds industry experience in heavy-construction and IT project delivery for power-plant developments. Amin combines rigorous computational methods with practical insights to advance sustainable, decentralized energy solutions.

Fiammetta Brandajs is a geographer (MSc, PhD), driven by a deep interest in how human movement—both physical and digitally mediated—reshapes spatial relationships, access, and territorial dynamics. She examines how mobility practices and energy systems evolve alongside socio-technical change, revealing how technological infrastructures and digital platforms co-construct new geographies. Her current research focuses on the co-evolution of mobility infrastructures, behaviors, and technologies under climate pressures, socio-ecological dynamics, and digital innovation. Within this framework, she critically investigates the spatial implications of smart and ICT-mediated mobility, particularly in relation to energy access, transport justice, and spatial justice. Fiammetta is actively involved in the GRES project at Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), where she combines her expertise in spatial analysis with a strong commitment to social and environmental justice. Her work maps the socio-ecological determinants and territorial patterns that reveal the emergence of green sacrifice zones in Spain and across Europe.

Dr. Sanju Sanjaya obtained his Ph.D., in Applied Botany from the University of Mysore in India. Following his graduation, he was involved in postdoctoral research across various institutions, including Indian Institute of Science (IISc) India, Academia Sinica, Taiwan, and Michigan State University, USA, before taking a faculty position at West Virginia State University (WVSU). Currently, Dr. Sanjaya serves as the WVSU Director of the Energy and Environmental Science Institute and is an Associate Professor specializing in Bioenergy and Environmental Biotechnology at WVSU. His laboratory is at the forefront of research aimed at engineering plants and microalgae to enhance their bioenergy potential, nutritional content, industrial applications, and phytoremediation capabilities, thereby promoting increased production, profitability, and sustainability. The research conducted in his lab employs bioinformatics, molecular and cell biology, genetics, and genetic engineering techniques to elucidate the mechanisms underlying plant lipid metabolism. Dr. Sanjaya has received over 8 million US dollars from various funding agencies and contributed to numerous esteemed journals and holds several patents related to his innovations in gene technology.
